Howard Goodall

Howard Goodall is an EMMY, BRIT and BAFTA award-winning composer of choral music, stage musicals, film and TV scores, a highly respected broadcaster and an energetic campaigner for music education.

Howard’s composing credits range from TV themes such as Blackadder, Vicar of Dibley and Mr Bean to musical theatre (including The Hired Man, and Girlfriends) to numerous choral and classical pieces. Putting his academic pedigree and communication skills to good use he has presented several ground-breaking, award-winning series for Channel 4 (Howard Goodall’s Organ Works, Howard Goodall’s Choir Works, Howard Goodall’s Big Bangs, Howard Goodall’s 20th Century Composers, Howard Goodall’s Great Dates, and How Music Works)

His passion for music in education is well documented and he does much to support music-making in schools both publicly and personally. In January 2007 he was appointed as England’s first ever ‘Ambassador' to lead a National Campaign for Singing.

Howard composed the score and some of the lyrics for Love Story, a musical based on the late Erich Segal's 1969 novella, which completed 32 performances at the Minerva Theatre, Chichester. Virtually all 32 performances were sold out and there was a standing ovation at most too.

Howard previously had a regular series on BBC Radio 2, and now as Classic FM’s Composer-in-Residence, he hosts Howard Goodall's Saturday Concert from 7 – 10pm on Classic FM.

He is a witty and engaging speaker on a range of subjects covering the themes of his TV series’ and on musical theatre.
