Gina Yashere
Gina Yashere is a comedienne, who has made numerous appearances on television and radio in both the UK and the US.
The undisputed star of Celebrity Fame Academy, Nigerian born Londoner Gina Yashere has become one of the most recognisable and sought after comics in the country. A former lift engineer, she has been described ‘a British rival for Whoopi Goldberg’. Her cheeky wit and bombastic delivery has seen her complete numerous sellout tours nationwide, and beyond.
Gina won Best Female Comedian at the Black Comedy Awards three years running (2005 – 2007), and she was nominated for Best female Comedian at the Black Tie Awards in 2009.
Gina is a regular panelist on the BBC 2 topical celebrity panel game Mock The Week. Her other TV credits include: Comic Relief Does Fame Academy in 2005 (BBC1), Gina’s Laughing Gear in 2006 (CBBC), host for The Mobo Awards 2005 and 2006 (BBC1) alongside Akon and Coolio, and Last Comic Standing (NBC). Gina appeared as the character Flo in the ITV drama Married Single, Other, in early 2010.
In 2008 Gina moved from London to be based out in Los Angeles, although she makes frequent trips back to England. Since then Gina has rapidly built her success in the United States appearing on a number of popular TV shows. In 2009 Gina performed on the famous Live at Gotham This show features the country's hottest comedians doing fresh stand-up at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York City. Later in 2009 Gina performed as a ‘Surly Psychic’ on the Jay Leno Show.
In May 2010 Gina toured Australia adding to her world fame, and was met with rave reviews. Australian Stage Online wrote, “From the moment she stepped on to the Fusebox stage Gina Yashere effortlessly demonstrated why she is one of the best comics in the world - black or white, male or female. She has the mastery of the truly gifted. Her casual ease with the audience, riffing with the first two rows about their names, jobs and delusions combined with sharp social satire is a complete hit.”
It is this casual ease and friendly rapport with an audience that makes Gina so perfect for corporate events. She can charm, she can amuse, and she can turn any corporate event into a hilarious day or night to remember.
Gina has much experience of working in live environments and at a variety of events. In 2008 Gina was the Red Carpet Host for the very glamorous and high-profile Black Entertainment Awards. Gina’s numerous after dinner performances have included appearances for Microsoft, P&O, The Direct Marketing Association, Black Business Awards, Nubian Jak and Lehman Brothers.
